California White Water Rafting Trips:
Tuolumne River Classics - Yosemite

Located just 3 hours from San Francisco and just west of Yosemite National Park, California, the Tuolumne River near Groveland, California is one of North America's truly classic white water rafting runs.

Springing clear and cool from its headwaters in Yosemite, the Tuolumne thunders through a grand succession of boulder gardens and spectacular cascades, passing through steep canyon walls, plunging in white water patterns that are frolicsome, tangled and mesmerizing.

Tuolumne River - Classic One-Day
1 Day Rafting Trip (Class IV)
May through September

In what has been called "the most significant victory in the history of the Wild and Scenic Rivers System", Congress designated the Tuolumne a "National Wild and Scenic River" in 1984.

The Tuolumne is richly deserving of this status as between Meral's Pool and Ward's Ferry bridge, no roads or other signs of present-day civilization penetrate the river's canyon.

Whitewater Voyages operates trips on the Tuolumne River under permit from Stanislaus National Forest, which restricts the river to two guided trips per day and 1-day trip group sizes of 21 people.

The Tuolumne River is rated at Class IV, or IV+ above 4000 CFS. There is one class V rapid, Clavey Falls.

Some of the more memorable rapids include Sunderland's Chute, Hackamack's Hole, Ram's Head, Grey's Grindstone, Hell's Kitchen and Clavey Falls.

May through September

On our 2 day trips through this wilderness mecca, we push off into the "forest primeval" with all gear aboard our rafts in dry bags, severing for a time all contact with the outside world.

And the longer our time away, the better, for our longer trips provide more time to explore neighboring pools, socialize with new friends, dream, and truly imbibe the full magic of the Tuolumne.

Tuolumne River - Classic Three-Day
3 Day Rafting Trip (Class IV)
May through September

On our 3 day " T " trip, we push off the riverbank with all gear aboard our rafts in dry bags, severing, for a time, all contact with the outside world. On our first day, we descend from our put-in at Meral's Pool and raft through the technical rapids of Rock Garden and Nemesis continuing on through 7-8 miles of drops and chutes ending our day at our riverside camp above famous Clavey Falls and a delicious dinner under the stars.

Day 2 we spend exploring swimming holes and waterfalls in nearby tributary creeks spilling into the Tuolumne, relaxing in the summer sun and absorbing the scenic beauty of the Sierra wilderness.

Day 3 we blast through Clavey Falls after which the river passes through several Class III rapids before entering the final Class IV section before takeout.
